Children's book art attracted me as a small child and does so to this day. It may be genetic - my mother hoped to be an illustrator but, instead, became an elementary school teacher (where she put her artistic skills to good use for many years). The illustrators she loved became the illustrators I loved: Wanda Gäg, Lois Lenski, Jessie Willcox Smith, Tasha Tudor, Leo Politi and many other writer/illustrators have caught my fancy and deeply enriched my life. Here are some of the most splendid books for children ever created; a few I own, many I'd love to own, and all have brought me inspiration, knowledge, and great joy.
